The Flood.
What really happened at the time of the great Flood that destroyed the Antediluvian world?
In
the ongoing explanation with respect to the event as portrayed in The GOD Principle, I expound upon my thoughts and beliefs
regarding the Great Flood. Few things in the bible have proved to be more controversial to contemporary science than that of the
Flood. Scientists and archeologists do not disagree that there were large floods in history, but that it was a worldwide deluge is
a sticking point for them. For the purposes of this novel, I take the position that it was in fact a global cataclysm. The
topography of the earth as it existed then was vastly different than it exists today.
I borrowed almost wholesale a theory first posited by Dr. Walter T. Brown PhD which he calls the "Hydroplate Theory". This
particular theory envisions the planet earth as being largely covered with habitable land with areas of inland seas, rivers and
lakes. The bulk of the water that we now see in our oceans and arctic regions existed in a subterranean layer of interlocking
caverns which acted almost like a cushion between this “outer crust” of habitable land and the "inner crust" which was broken into
tectonic plates. Another large store of moisture was contained in a now extinct layer of our atmosphere referred to in the novel
as a vapor canopy. Dr. Brown hypothesizes that this outer crust, under tremendous pressure, finally split causing the subterranean
ocean to burst out. This initial explosion of water would have shot more than twenty thousand feet into the air and would have
been comprised of mostly superheated steam. Upon its ascent, a great deal of earth and debris would have also been taken skyward.
This amount of earth and debris would have had the effect of ionizing the atmosphere and would have collapsed the vapor canopy.
Once the canopy had collapsed, the “Greenhouse effect” it had on the planet would have dissipated almost immediately. The polar
regions of the planet, almost tropical in climate, would suddenly be plunged into sub-zero conditions. The torrents of rain now
pouring down onto the earth would flash freeze in the Polar Regions entombing anything below.
There are even more dramatic effects happening to the crust of the earth as this subterranean ocean empties out. The outer crust
is now pushed away from a growing bulge as the inner crust begins to push upward due to the increased pressure from the outer
crust. According to Dr. Brown, this bulge can be observed today in the guise of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The effect on this bulge
to the outer crust was to send the sections racing away from one another, using what is left of the subterranean ocean as a
lubricant. Where these land masses finally connect, powerful forces drive sections of the outer crust downward while pushing
other sections upward. The results of this impact are mountain ranges and ocean trenches. Once everything has settled down, the
topography of the earth we are familiar with today is revealed.
There are many within the scientific community that absolutely despise Dr. Brown and his various theories, specifically his stand
as a "Young Earth" Creationist and his Hydroplate Theory, equating it to junk science and hokum. While my personal opinion is
counter to an evolutionary model or a young earth creation, the Hydroplate theory fits in well with my hypothesis and I have
utilized it here. Without debating either evolution or young earth theories here (most who believe in evolution also must believe
in an old earth theory while those who believe in a young earth theory have no reason to embrace evolution.)That leaves me out of
that particular argument. I believe that the known universe is approximately 14.6 billion years of age, but if it were one
hundred times that age, a lizard would never evolve into a human; a politician maybe, but not a human…
Regardless the opinions on both sides of the aisle, It is clear that I have formulated my own points of view which have yet to
be adequately answered by either. Since there seems to be an impasse, the Hydroplate Theory fits very well with the
deuterocanonical account of the flood in the Book of Jasher as does the old earth theory from science. In the Jasher account
outlined in chapter six, verse 28 – 30, the Ark is tossed about like a cork in a caldron at the time of the flood—an apt
description if subterranean ocean chambers were to suddenly explode on the earth. What occurred on the Ark as outlined in Jasher
would have been difficult to imagine had something horrific not occurred. While Jasher has been rejected as authentic scripture,
the simple fact is that the book and sections of its writings are included in the Canonical books of Joshua and 2nd Samuel. Since
those books date to approximately 586 BC, it is clear that something terrible happened at the time of the flood which is not
recorded in the Book of Genesis to the same detail.
The Sumerian "Epic of Gilgamesh" includes a similar tale to that outlined in The God Principle. The Epic of Gilgamesh is regarded
as one of the oldest works of literature known, written in approximately 1900 BC. Its protagonist, Gilgamesh, is the king of
Uruk and like the Nephilim portrayed in The God Principle he too is a hybrid. In Gilgamesh’s flood account; a similar violence is
described which is so terrible that, "Even the gods were afraid of the storm." The violence outlined in both Jasher and the Epic
of Gilgamesh seems to describe a completely different scenario than that which is portrayed in the Biblical account and which is
generally known. Jasher describes that the inhabitants of the Ark were absolutely terrified; that the Ark, "…was tossed upon the
waters so that all the living creatures within were turned about like pottage in a cauldron." Noah, the very man who was given
instructions to build the Ark and did so for a span of nearly one hundred and twenty years, was so terrified at what was going
on outside the huge wooden box that he wept and believed that he had reached the gates of death. This flood was not a mere
rainstorm, nor the Mediterranean Sea overflowing its banks. The violence described bespeaks a much greater event. The Hydroplate
Theory fits those descriptions quite accurately.
Many archeologists believe that the account of Noah was borrowed from the Epic of Gilgamesh, but I am inclined to believe that
the only common thread between the two accounts is the global flood. Noah and Gilgamesh share no other similarities. Many other
peoples from all over the world have their own flood stories as well. One Ancient Asian account mirrors the Noahic account in
that it also describes the waters from below gushing forth and flooding the earth. In an earthquake, mountains tumbled down,
the earth gaped, and hot subterranean waters gushed out and flooded the whole earth." Frazer, Sir James G. The Golden Bough,
1890.
It is somewhat curious to ponder the possibility that if these accounts were mere folk tales imagined by a primitive people, how
the physics of their details could be so accurate. How would a primitive ancient be aware of the fact that such a great amount
of water under tremendous pressure would remain liquid only as long as it remained under pressure? How would such an individual
know that once this water burst forth from its subterranean location and the pressure was thus alleviated, that this water would
emerge as superheated steam? It is possible that such people were familiar with geysers, but a geyser certainly could not produce
the amounts of water described in this ancient Asian flood story any more than it would have produced the flood waters described
in Jasher and Genesis. Clearly there was something else—some singular event—that occurred to leave such an indelible impression
on these ancient peoples and they have the physics of the event correct because they actually witnessed such a cataclysm.
The Biblical account of the flood reduces the lone survivors of humanity to those aboard the Biblical Ark constructed by Noah.
Due to many logistical problems and the lore surrounding the flood that pervades every culture and corner of the earth, I have
concluded that just as Genesis is an account of one group of people and ignores other groups as not being relevant or germane,
the Biblical account of Noah and the Ark is just one such account amongst many. In The God Principle, The Celestials must agree
amongst themselves to destroy the earth in order to remove the scourge of the Nephilim and punish the Watchers. As these
Celestials were all aware of the coming deluge and they all had a vested interest in protecting their human and animal creation,
there would have been at least ten of the Arks built and set afloat at the time of the deluge. This would account for the
plethora of stories from all over the world as well as the divergent cast of characters. Additionally, it would account for
such different people, plants and animals scattered all over the globe.
If we concede that the "Ice Ages" which are theorized by science did not actually occur as is presently believed, but rather
we are witnessing the evidence of a complete collapse of an environmental system that radically changed the earth and its climate,
then we can dismiss such speculation as migration over non-existent land bridges to account for the population of the earth
segmented into the types that we find now. In The God Principle, the differences in skin color and features are attributed to the
unique creative stylization by a particular Celestial angel. The God Principle does not subscribe to the notion of the earth being
populated with several different humanoid races; rather there is but one race of humans offered up in a variety of colors,
cultures and looks culled from the imagination of a spiritual being. Differentiation of races within the pages of The God
Principle is defined in the guise of the Angels (spiritual) and the Nephilim (hybrid).
